An Uber driver accused of running over a disabled veteran has been locked up in Jackson County.
Officers with the Ocean Springs Police Department responded to the Singing River Training Facility after receiving a call about a pedestrian suffering vehicular assault. The victim, an unidentified man reported to be a disabled veteran, was allegedly run over by Roderick Keys, who was working as an Uber driver.
According to law enforcement, an altercation between the victim and Keys broke out after the driver reportedly dropped the victim off at the wrong location. The victim told police he was supposed to be transported to the Singing River Imaging Center, rather than the training facility.
When asked to take the veteran to the correct location, Keys is accused of scolding the victim and telling him to walk to his destination. The victim is reported to have exited the Uber and walked in front of the vehicle. Keys then allegedly used the automobile to bump into the victim before striking him more violently and running him over.
The victim was hospitalized, but is reported to be in stable condition. Keys, on the other hand, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance. His bond has been set at just above $100,000.
