The Mississippi Department of Revenue is urging residents to avoid falling for the latest text message scam.

Scammers have been sending out phishing texts regarding tax refund requests while claiming to be from the government agency. This specific scam directs one to an unofficial website where the public is lured into giving out sensitive information, such as a credit card number or access to banking accounts.

Folks who receive these types of texts are urged to avoid clicking the links and responding to the scammer, while being encouraged to delete the messages.
