After the number of new cases dipped on Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,074 new COVID-19 cases.�
Today�s report brings Mississippi�s total up to 62,199. With the confirmation of 42 additional deaths, 1,753 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
Currently, there are 172 active outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities. This represents a sizable decrease after that number had climbed up to 202 in Saturday�s report.�
Hospital data has not been updated on the MSDH website since July 31st.�
As of Monday, MSDH was able to estimate that 42,391 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.�
With the continued rise in cases in Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves is expected to make an announcement related to the reopening of schools this afternoon at 2:30. This comes just days after State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs publicly expressed support for delaying the reopening process until September.�
The Corinth School District, one of the first to return to the classroom, has already confirmed 5 cases within Corinth High School.�
