1 injured, 2 in custody after shooting at South Mississippi Fair

Two suspects are in custody after a person was injured during a shooting at the South Mississippi Fair on Saturday.

According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, a “massive law enforcement and medical response was initiated” as shots rang out. Fairground security quickly apprehended the two suspects, whose names have not been released at this time.

The South Mississippi Fair, which takes place annually in Laurel, was closed for the remainder of the evening. The event is scheduled to run through Saturday, Oct. 26.

JCSD added that the investigation remains active and more information will be released soon.
