Mississippi will participate in an initiative backed by the White House aimed at increasing vaccinations in the African American Community.
Thursday, MSDH Senior Deputy and Director of Health Protection Jim Craig announced the upcoming launch of the ‘Shots at the Shop’ program in Mississippi. Craig explained that the program will offer training to African American-owned barbershops and salons and enlist their help in relaying “correct vaccination information to their customers, friends and communities.”
The program will pay participating shops $1,000 for completing the training and hosting an MSDH vaccination event either in or around their shops.
‘Shots at the Shop’ will be available to 500 shops in Mississippi and will officially begin on August 16th.
Of the over 2.2 million doses of the vaccine administered in the state, 38% of recipients are African American.
More information about the ‘Shots at the Shop’ program will likely be shared by the MSDH in the coming days.
