2 arrested after missing man’s body found on side of Mississippi highway

The body of a missing Mississippi man was found burnt on the side of a highway on Monday.

Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley said a father came into his office to file a missing person’s report on his son. Within a few hours, Mississippi Department of Transportation crews came across a body on Highway 472 near Rockport Road and immediately contacted law enforcement.

The body was quickly identified as the man’s son, Billy Ray Jones, Jr. The 54-year-old’s remains had visible burn wounds present when officers arrived.

Billy Ray Jones, Jr. was found dead on the side of Highway 472 in Copiah County.

Two men have since been tabbed as behind the disappearance and murder of Jones. Matthew Nelson, 50, was taken into custody and charged. Tyrell Bridges, 32, was later found on Wednesday afternoon at a mobile home on Windy Hill Road in Adams County.

Tyrell Bridges (left) and Matthew Nelson (right) were arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping.
