A child who was reported missing out of Tennessee has been found safe in central Mississippi.
First reported by WLBT, the Sevier County (TN) Sheriff’s Office had issued an endangered child alert for six-year-old Elizabeth Ledford who authorities believed was traveling in a blue Nissan Versa with her father, Richard Ledford.
State troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Madison County sheriff’s deputies are said to have stopped the vehicle at a gas station on Peace Street in Canton.
Two people, one believed to be Richard Ledford, have been taken into custody. The child was safely recovered by law enforcement.
Authorities with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are collaborating to investigate the incident.
