Arcides Gomez and Marlid Carballo had allegedly placed the female infant behind the trash collection units at the Grove at Cayce before two men discovered the baby around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Officers stated that the newborn was found wrapped in blankets and placed in a car seat with one blanket over the top of the seat while the weather was in the mid-50s.

The infant was then transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where she is reported to be in good condition while recovering.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Gomez and Carballo were arrested two days later and charged with conspiracy and falsely reporting a crime.
