A central Mississippi man is in custody after posing as a student while trying to enter a Rankin County high school.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 24-year-old Lamarcus McDougle successfully hopped on a school bus en route to Northwest Rankin High School on Thursday.

McDougle, who was unarmed, allegedly claimed to be a newcomer to the school. He was promptly stopped and questioned by NWRHS administrators as soon as he entered the facility. After failing to show a valid school ID as well as an inability to give a valid reason for his presence on campus, McDougle was detained by the school’s resource officer.

Once McDougle’s identity was determined, he was taken into custody by deputies, Sheriff Bryan Bailey said.

At this time, a motive for the suspect to enter the educational center has not yet been determined. This is a developing story.
