The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Informative Administration (NTIA) announced the awarding of 13 grants totaling more than $277 million across the United States.
The grants, which are funded by the 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act, aim to expand broadband to unreached households through the Broadband Infrastructure Plan.
“These awards are a great first step in our march toward connecting every American to affordable, high-speed broadband service,” Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information Alan Davidson said. “We are eager to work closely with the grant recipients who will help us deploy broadband infrastructure to areas that have lacked it for too long.”
One of the 13 grants was awarded to the state of Mississippi, with the grant totaling more than $32 million.
NTIA’s release of the grants elaborated: “The State of Mississippi’s Application for NTIA Grant Funding project is a last-mile and middle-mile broadband deployment across the state of Mississippi consisting of ten unique projects.”
These projects are designed to bring broadband to approximately 12,487 Mississippi households in ten counties.
