Last year’s drought took a toll on the entire state of Mississippi and now the United States Department of Agriculture is stepping in to offer assistance to farmers.

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack has declared all 82 of the state’s counties disaster designations due to the excessively dry conditions experienced in 2023. This designation qualifies farmers for federal relief for damages and financial losses they faced as a result of the drought.

Those impacted by the drought are urged to visit their local USDA Farm Service Agency as soon as possible. Farmers have eight months to apply for a special loan.
