Alleged kidnapper of Rankin teen extradited to Mississippi

The man who stands accused of kidnapping Rankin County teenager John Michael Jones, 16, last month has been extradited to central Mississippi.

Jones was found in Arkansas with an older man, 34-year-old Kaleb James Cannady, nearly two days after he went missing. The search for Jones led to the first Purple Alert issued in Mississippi for law enforcement to raise public awareness about a missing individual with cognitive disabilities.

Cannady allegedly lured Jones to meet with him via online chat and crossed state lines with the teenager in tow. Jones was not injured and has been returned home without incident.

Cannady was arrested by Arkansas law enforcement after a “Be On the Look Out” issued for his vehicle helped officers track him down. He was extradited to Mississippi and is being held at the Rankin County Detention Center on charges of enticement and kidnapping.
