Amazon is announcing a new state-of-the-art fulfillment center operations in Byhalia, MS. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months.
This comes on the heels of an announcement in November that Amazon would build a fulfillment center in Madison County, creating 1,000 new jobs.
The Byhalia facility is expected to employ hundreds of employees who will work alongside innovative technologies to pick, pack, and ship larger customer items such as mattresses, kayaks, grills, and exercise equipment.
On top of Amazon’s industry-leading minimum $15 per hour wage, the company offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits including full medical, vision, and dental insurance as well as a 401(k) with 50 percent match starting on day one. Amazon also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility to support their growing families.
“We are excited to continue our investment in the Mid-South region and are committed to providing great experiences for our customers, the talented workforce, as well as our neighbors,” said Courtney Johnson Norman, Amazon spokesperson. “These new operation facilities are part of Amazon’s innovative technology network and will offer creative solutions to meet our growing customer demand in the area.”
“Mississippi continues to move forward in our economic development efforts, and Amazon has been a great partner for the state,” said Gov. Tate Reeves. “This new facility in Marshall County demonstrates Amazon’s commitment to Mississippi and shows how much the company values our workforce. Projects like these help create vibrant communities, stronger local economies, and a stronger tax base.”
“Marshall County is excited to partner with Amazon as they move forward with their second facility in our county,” said George Zinn III, President, Marshall County Board of Supervisors. “Amazon has provided hundreds of career opportunities to our region, and we support their continued growth and job creation. We look forward to continuing to work with Amazon to foster long-term investment and positive economic growth in our community.”
Last year, Amazon hired more than 1,500 employees in Mississippi to support the surge in demand due to the unprecedented health and economic crisis.
Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 2,000 full- and part-time jobs in Mississippi. The company has invested more than $120 million across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $100 million to the Mississippi economy and have helped create more than 1,000 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 7,500 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Mississippi are currently growing their businesses’ with Amazon, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
Amazon has also pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. The programs will help Amazon team members from all backgrounds access training to move into highly-skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retail stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.
