Over 250 motorcyclists will join forces in Tupelo this weekend to raise money for the children of post-9/11 veterans.

As part of the American Legion Legacy Run, which is a five-day, 1,150-mile motorcycle ride, bikers will take some time to stop at Veterans Park on Sunday around 4:00 p.m. There, they will participate in an end-of-the-day ceremony and wreath laying at the Vietnam Veterans Replica Wall Memorial.

Now in its 16th year, the American Legion Legacy Run has collected more than $15 million that goes towards providing scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel killed while serving on active duty or after September 11, 2001. Since 2004, the fund has awarded 478 scholarships.

“We are encouraging all Americans along the route to join us and show your support,” Paul E. Dillard, American Legion’s national commander, said. “Wave a flag or join us at one of our many stops. With over 250 motorcycles carrying the spirit of America, you’ll hear us roar through as we ride for the children of our nation’s heroes.”

This year’s ride will begin at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Ala., on August 21 and conclude at American Legion Post 434 in Oak Creek, Wis.
