Law enforcement closed off Highway 309 in Byhalia Monday morning amid an ongoing standoff with an armed suspect who is holding a toddler captive.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Office officials report that deputies were called to a domestic disturbance Sunday night where a suspect was armed. A mother and her toddler were also inside the residence.
Officials say the mother was able to escape the home and notify police, but the child remains in the home at the time of this article.
The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT team have joined Marshall County deputies as multiple agencies work to resolve the situation peaceably.
According to the Marshall County School District, school bus pickups and student arrival were affected in the area as police attempt to isolate the threat to public safety.
