An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting at a Jackson grocery store.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is looking into an incident in which a Hinds County sheriff’s deputy working as a security guard shot an individual in the parking lot of Kroger on Interstate 55 on Friday night.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. the unidentified deputy was notified of a domestic disturbance in the parking lot between an unidentified 68-year-old male and an unidentified female. Upon approaching a vehicle with the individuals involved, the deputy saw what appeared to be a weapon brandished by the male and discharged his weapon striking the male subject.
The male subject received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The deputy involved did not receive any serious physical injuries, a statement from the Department of Public Safety confirms.

Sheriff Tyree Jones also reports that the male subject’s weapon was recovered at the scene of the shooting. Criminal charges are expected to be filed against the 68-year-old once he’s released from the hospital.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
