As parents across Mississippi are preparing for their children to return to the classroom within the next couple of weeks, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is offering COVID-19 prevention strategies to keep students safe.
Dr. José Romero, the Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, sat down with us and offered his expertise on how children can be best prepared to go back to school safely as COVID-19 continues to run its course.
- Get children vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Get children up-to-date on routine vaccinations not related to COVID-19.
- Adhere to local health departments or school districts’ recommendations on masking and social distancing.
- Wear a mask when community levels of COVID-19 are high.
- Use proper cough etiquette.
- Avoid crowds if possible.
- Wash your hands.
- Use hand sanitizer.
