A Biloxi man has been arrested after allegedly stealing millions from the American Shrimp Processing Association.

Charles David Veal, 79, was arrested in Gulfport on Thursday for felony embezzlement of over $3 million. Police say his arrest was the result of an investigation that began when the company reported that Veal had transferred money from its nonprofit bank account to his personal account.

Veal served as executive director of ASPA, which was formed in 1964 to represent and promote the shrimp processing industry along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It also has members from Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida.

The money is said to have been stolen between 2016 and 2022. Officials in Harrison County are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the Biloxi Police Department’s investigation division at (228) 435-6112.
