Biloxi Mayor excited about tourism season

Biloxi casinos brought in $111-million in gross gaming revenues last month, eclipsing a $105-million record set in July of 2007.  Mayor Andrew ‘Fofo’ Gilich is expecting it to be another busy weekend.  “We’re anxious to see how the numbers roll out.  But you can just feel it, people here, activities going, go-kart tracks and putt-putt, all the family stuff,” he told SuperTalk Mississippi.

Business owners across the state are still struggling to find workers, but Gilich thinks when the expanded unemployment benefits program comes to an end in June, that’ll change.  “We’re hopeful that services we’ve been lacking–hospitality services, cleaning rooms and stuff like that–that really nailed us not being able to clean the room to sell it again until Tuesday or Wednesday after the weekend.”

He also told us registration numbers for “Cruisin’ the Coast”, which will celebrate it’s 25th Anniversary this year, are already high.  “I think 7-9 thousand is what they expect.  I think they’re really hitting those numbers.”
