Mississippi elementary school principal Melissa Nance has been arrested for three counts of felony fraud.

Nance, who is the principal at Nichols Elementary School in Biloxi, has been charged with conspiracy, intent to defraud, and making fraudulent statements and representations.

The charges come from the State Auditor’s Office but are not related to the Biloxi Public School District.

Nance is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center without bond and has been placed on administrative leave.

“Mrs. Nance is a long-time employee and principal with an excellent record of success in the Biloxi Public School District. As we await the outcome of these allegations, we will continue to cooperate fully with the State Auditor’s Office,” Biloxi School District Spokesperson Jennifer Pyron said in a statement.
