Bond has been denied for the teenager who killed a man at a tennis complex in Mississippi’s capital city.
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, 19-year-old Daveon Lindsey was taken into custody on Wednesday around 1 p.m. when he crashed the vehicle stolen from 29-year-old Melvin McNair, Jr. on Ridgewood Road in front of Jackson Fire Station 19. McNair was found dead in a pool of blood at Parham Bridges Park just hours earlier.
Detectives learned that a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck had been taken after McNair was killed. Officers spotted the suspect at a Walgreens located just one block away from the crime scene before a chase ensued. A second vehicle is also reported to have crashed during the chase.

Wade said Lindsey confessed to killing McNair. The teen shot the victim multiple times with a pink assault rifle, drug McNair out of the vehicle, and confiscated the man’s wallet before driving off in the truck. Police confiscated the murder weapon at the scene of the crash.
“This was very disturbing on so many levels because so many people in northeast Jackson use that park,” Wade said during a press conference.
A motive for the shooting has not been released.
