A Tennessee man has been issued 13 charges after reportedly assaulting and kidnapping a woman over a lottery ticket.

At 11:42 p.m. on Tuesday, 43-year-old Dontrell Hanes was accused of approaching the victim at her own home, which he was living in at the time of his arrest.

After speaking to the victim through the front door, Hanes was said to have demanded his lottery ticket and money, later breaking into the woman’s house through the garage.

According to the affidavit, Hanes then allegedly hit and choked the woman before dragging her to his vehicle through the front door, saying that “she was coming with him.”

Once Hanes and the victim were in the vehicle, Hanes stated that he was going to take them to Orange Mound to “shoot up someone’s house” while grabbing a loaded handgun from beneath the driver’s seat.

The two then drove to Horn Lake, Mississippi, instead, where Hanes bought himself and the victim Burger King before demanding $10,000 from the woman. When the victim refused, Hanes stated that “if she tried to leave, this would not end well.”

Hanes and the woman continued to travel in his vehicle, later giving the victim her cell phone back to contact her family. The woman contacted the police instead, which located the two at an Exxon gas station on Mt. Moriah Road.

When officers arrived, Hanes was said to have become verbally and physically aggressive, assaulting two detectives while resisting arrest.

Hanes was then charged with the following:

  • Aggravated kidnapping
  • Aggravated burglary
  • Aggravated assault
  • Domestic assault
  • Theft of property
  • Possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony
  • Unlawful carrying/possession of a weapon
  • Convicted felon in possession of a handgun
  • Four counts of aggravated assault of a first responder
  • Resisting official detention

At this time, Hanes’ bond has been set at $250,000.
