A Calhoun City alderman and a co-conspirator are accused of robbing a person and stealing the victim’s belongings.
Per a report from WCBI, Ward 2 Alderman Tony Herrod and Markus Hankins are said to have chased down the unidentified victim and beaten the individual before stealing multiple items. According to Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan, the incident took place Sunday night at the campus of Calhoun City Elementary School.
Surveillance footage at the scene allowed law enforcement to identify the subjects, one being an elected official. The victim was hospitalized with multiple broken ribs but was shortly released from medical care.
Herrod and Hankins are charged with aggravated assault and strong-armed robbery. Each suspect was given a $10,000 bond.
