Canopy plants blue pinwheels for Child Abuse Awareness Month

Have you seen any blue pinwheels in gardens across Mississippi?

If so, you’ve seen the work of Canopy Children’s Solutions, the largest nonprofit provider of behavioral health, educational, and social service solutions in Mississippi.

Over the entirety of April, Canopy has been placing blue pinwheels in gardens across the state to serve as a reminder of Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Countless cases of child abuse occur across the nation every day, but Canopy aims to change that.

Every day, Canopy collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to streamline the process of identifying, investigating, and prosecuting cases of child abuse, along with providing a wide range of services to children and families.

Director of Canopy’s South Mississippi Child Advocacy Center (SMCAC) Sabreniee Wright explained how her team works every day to give children and families the justice they deserve.

“In order for children to have the trauma that they experienced resolved, they need people like Canopy’s South Mississippi Child Advocacy team to help them along the way,” Wright continued. “There is hope when children have access to therapeutic resources and can begin healing.”

If you suspect a child is being abused, call Mississippi’s 24-hour child abuse hotline at 1-800-222-8000 to file an anonymous report.
