CBSB: Ole Miss, Southern Miss shift to new spots in D1Baseball Top 25

Ole Miss slid back in this week’s D1Baseball Top 25 rankings after dropping two of three to No. 3 Arkansas, while Southern Miss jumped up following a 3-1 week.

The Mississippi pair have remained in the poll since first entering three weeks ago.

Ole Miss fell five spots to No. 18 after losing a hard-fought series to No. 3 Arkansas. The Rebels got a quality start out of Friday ace Hunter Elliot to set the table for Friday’s 10-6 win. But the Razorbacks exploded for 24 runs over the next two games to take the series.

Mike Bianco’s club turned in a 1-3 week that included a 14-5 loss to South Alabama, snapping a 13-game winning streak that carried into the week. Now, Ole Miss will look to bounce back in a midweek rematch against Southern Miss and a three-game road set against Missouri this weekend.

CBSB weekend recap: Southern Miss takes two while Ole Miss, Mississippi State stumble

Southern Miss landed at its highest ranking yet in the poll, coming in one spot behind Ole Miss at No. 19.

The Golden Eagles bounced back after back-to-back blowout midweek losses with a win over UT-Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday. It was followed by another successful weekend as the black and gold took two of three from Sun Belt foe Old Dominion. The pair of wins makes Southern Miss five-for-five in weekend series this year.

No. 18 Ole Miss and No. 19 Southern Miss will tangle in “The Swamp” at Trustmark Park Tuesday evening, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.  The Rebels will go for a regular season sweep against their south Mississippi foes after winning 15-8 in Oxford in round one.

Mississippi State missed the rankings for the second straight week after suffering a sweep to No. 8 Texas.
