Central Mississippi hit hard by severe weather Tuesday night

Portions of central Mississippi were struck hard by severe weather on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

As a tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) with a confirmed touch down in Raymond, heavy winds and hail ranging from pea to dime-sized crashed down in and around the Jackson metro. Damage being reported so far includes parts of roofs coming off in the Sheffield neighborhood as well as trees and power lines down throughout western and northern Hinds County.

As of 6:39 a.m., over 33,000 residents were still without power with the most outages coming in Hinds (8,963), Madison (8,248), and Warren (5,297) counties.

Severe weather is expected to continue throughout Wednesday with tornadoes likely in central and southern Mississippi, according to NWS.
