As one of the Mississippi Delta’s largest hospitals faces possible closure, its CEO has stepped down from his position.
Jason Studley, who had served as Greenwood Leflore Hospital’s CEO since October 2020, informed employees and medical staff of his resignation in a Friday memo.
“At this time, I need to dedicate my focus to exploring other opportunities that may secure my own family’s future,” Studley wrote.
Studley’s resignation, which took effect immediately, comes as Greenwood Leflore Hospital works towards an affiliation with the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). According to The Greenwood Commonwealth, the hospital “might have to discontinue operations around the end of the year” if an affiliation with a larger medical institution is not reached.
“I want to assure you that the joint operations plans with UMMC have been well-planned, and will continue as mapped out, even in my absence” Studley continued in the memo.
If an agreement between Greenwood Leflore Hospital and UMMC is reached, approval of affiliation would be needed from the hospital board, the Greenwood City Council, the Leflore County Board of Supervisors, as well as the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.
Details regarding an interim CEO have not yet been released.
