A fatal officer-involved shooting that took place in the Mississippi Delta is under investigation by state authorities.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is assessing an exchange of gunfire that reportedly rang out between officers with the Clarksdale Police Department and an unidentified subject on Friday. Police report that the incident began when officers responded to a call for service regarding a traffic accident near McGuire Cove.
Upon arrival, an altercation occurred between an officer and the subject, authorities contend. The subject allegedly discharged a weapon, striking the unidentified officer. The officer then fired his weapon striking the subject.
The subject received fatal injuries and the officer involved has been transported to a hospital. No further information has been provided regarding the officer’s medical status.
MBI is currently assessing the fatal incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office.
