A 17-year-old student-athlete from Mississippi was struck and killed by a vehicle in Pennsylvania last week.

According to a release from the York County Coroner’s Office, Quinterrion Smith was visiting Springettsbury Township, Pa. with his basketball team on July 11. A little after 10 p.m., when Smith and a group of friends began to cross the road just after 10 p.m., a vehicle hit Smith. He was left critically injured and pronounced dead just before noon the next day.

Smith, who was a rising junior at Coffeeville High School, is being remembered as a “beloved student-athlete” who will be missed by classmates, family, and friends.

“Quinterrion Smith, a beloved student-athlete here at Coffeeville High School. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. The loss of Quin will be deeply felt by all who knew him. As a school community, let us support one another and honor Quin’s memory,” a statement from Coffeeville High School reads.

The Coffeeville School District added that counseling services are available for any students or staff impacted by Smith’s death.

The York County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the driver, whose identity has not been released, is cooperating with Springettsbury Township Police as the investigation into the incident continues.
