A Columbus city councilman has added another arrest in what has become a long list of run-ins with law enforcement.
Councilman Pierre Beard, who represents Ward 4, was arrested and booked into Lowndes County jail on Tuesday morning for failing to pay court fines. The fines are tied to a misdemeanor drug charge on Beard when illegal narcotics were found in his home earlier this year.
The sequence is beginning to become a common occurrence for the embattled councilman. In August, Beard pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and marijuana possession charges in Gordo, Ala. He was arrested and charged for the crimes in the neighboring state in December of 2023.
Beard was first placed in handcuffs two years into his stretch on the city council for a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in 2021.
The Columbus official remains in office, per the City of Columbus, and his current term as a councilman is set to end in 2025.
