Computer breach leaves Hinds County residents without services

posted in: Mississippi News | 0

Hinds County sustained a computer breach that shut down operations for employees on Thursday.

Internal servers were compromised countywide and administrators and employees were unable to gain access to the internet on government computers.

The county is working with cybersecurity experts to resolve the issue. For now, residents are currently not able to receive certain services or even purchase car tags for the time being.

The sheriff’s department was also affected by the breach. Sheriff Tyree Jones confirmed that non-essential staffers have been temporarily suspended until the servers are restored.

Jones confirmed that emergency services were not impacted by the breach. Residents are still able to call 911 and police offices in the county in the event of an emergency.

This is a developing story. More details will be provided when made available.
