While clean drinking water has been restored in most parts of Jackson, the federal government is looking to send more relief to assist Mississippi’s capital city in permanently remedying the water treatment systems.
Included in Section 125 of the Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 is $20 million in emergency aid for previously authorized water and wastewater infrastructure improvements for Mississippi’s capital city.

Also found in the bill is $3 billion to provide assistance, including training, equipment, weapons, logistics support, supplies and services, salaries and stipends, sustainment, and intelligence support to the military and national security forces of Ukraine. Domestic measures such as assisting American families to afford heating bills, which are expected to rise exponentially during the winter months, and Veterans Affairs extensions are incorporated as well.
The legislation, as a whole, is to fund the federal government until mid-December. A procedural vote will be held by the U.S. Senate on Tuesday evening and the legislation must be approved by both chambers of Congress by Friday, the end of the fiscal year, in order to avoid a partial government shutdown.
