Two Bayou Academy students are confirmed to have passed away after a multi-vehicle wreck involving a Bolivar County sheriff’s deputy.
Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said that troopers were sent to an accident on Yale Street in Cleveland just before 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Deputy Brionna Brown was reportedly driving to work when her truck collided with a truck occupied by two high schoolers en route to football practice.
Brown is reported to have received “moderate injuries” as a result of the crash, whereas the two teenagers, whose identities have not been released by law enforcement, succumbed to their injuries.
A statement posted by Bayou Academy’s official Facebook account in the aftermath of the fatal wreck reads:
“We ask that you pray for all the families involved in today’s tragic events, as well as our BA Family. We are all hurting at the loss of two of our own. We also ask that you pray for those at the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office and the families involved. If any of our students need someone to talk to, our counselor & principal are available.”
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Additionally, an onslaught of posts by other academic institutions, including Delta State University, Madison-Ridgeland Academy, Canton Academy, and Jackson Academy, among others, has flooded social media offering prayers and condolences for the families and friends impacted by the deaths of the Bayou students.
