Mississippi fairgoers will not be indulging in the famous line dance called the “Cupid Shuffle” as the song’s artist has canceled Sunday’s performance.
R&B singer Cupid took to social media to announce that he will not be taking the stage in Jackson just two days ahead of his scheduled “Line Dance with Cupid” show due to what he says is a breach of a contract he had with the venue.
Cupid alleges that he was told he would not receive the backend of his contract because he does not attract enough of an audience to justify the amount he was charging the venue for his upcoming performance. The musician also claims that he has returned the money he was initially paid for the performance.
“The deposit has been sent back to the promoter. I was told that the backend would not be fulfilled,” Cupid said on Facebook Live. “Of course, you know I can’t go out there and do a show knowing that the remainder of my backend is not going to be there.”
At this time, officials with the Mississippi State Fair have not yet released whether or not another performer will fill the slot left vacant by Cupid, which was set from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
