Despite a career game from Oxford native Cooper Pratt, the Biloxi Shuckers fell 6-1 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the series opener on Tuesday night.

Pratt, who was Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year before turning pro out of high school, had two hits and the lone RBI for Biloxi. The biggest highlight of the night came via his glove, though, as Pratt made a diving grab in the seventh inning that may just land on ESPN.

As for how the rest of the game played out, Biloxi (15-13) hung tough until the top of the third inning when Pensacola (19-9) produced a 3-0 lead, former Ole Miss star Kemp Alderman being one of the batters to cross home plate.

The Shuckers got on the board in the bottom of the third via a Pratt RBI single. In the top of the fourth inning, Johnny Olmsted hit a solo home run to extend Pensacola’s lead back to three. It stayed all Wahoo from there on out as Pensacola piled on two runs in the sixth to make for a 6-1 final.

Former Mississippi State star K.C. Hunt (2-3) suffered the loss on the mound for Biloxi, pitching five innings and allowing four runs. Jacob Miller (1-2) earned the win for Pensacola, allowing one run over seven innings.

The two teams return to action on Wednesday. First pitch from Keesler Federal Park is slated for 11:05 a.m.
