Almost $1.2 million in Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds will be going to the city of Diamondhead following an announcement from Governor Tate Reeves on Monday afternoon.
Since 2006, billions in GOMESA funds have gone to various projects across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, with the newest plans set to improve drainage infrastructure and water quality in the Ala Moana and Coon Ranch area of Diamondhead.
In addition to improving the city’s infrastructure, a second project totaling nearly $2 million was announced by Reeves.
The project is expected to aid in environmental research conducted by the National Ocean and Application Research Center to help protect the Gulf’s ecosystems.
Applications to apply for the remaining $55 million in GOMESA funds will close on July 1.
