An electronic threat was made against Northwest Rankin High School on Wednesday, causing law enforcement to respond to the educational facility.
Rankin County Sheriff’s Department officials say they were notified shortly after the threat was made. In coordination with the school district, deputies investigated the incident and placed the school under controlled movement.

No evidence to corroborate the threat was found at the school.
“In incidents such as this our top priority is the safety of our students and staff,” a statement from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department reads. “The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate leads to identify the suspect who made the terroristic threat.”
Officials say the suspect, once identified, will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
Wednesday’s threat comes less than two months after a separate threat of violence against Northwest Rankin High School.
