Friday is Dr. Thomas Dobbs’ final day on the job as Mississippi’s State Health Officer.

We recently sat down with one of Dobbs’ colleagues, Dr. Randy Easterling, to discuss what all Dobbs has done for the state — especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“His work, his dedication, his demeanor, the way he explained things to the citizens of Mississippi when we were caught in the grips of this horrific virus that hopefully none of us, or our children and grandchildren, will ever see again — at the end of the day, his actions saved the lives of countless Mississippians,” Easterling said.

U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., also took some time to honor Dobbs on the Senate floor.

“I am saddened to see Dr. Dobbs leave the Mississippi State Department of Health, but I am confident he will continue to do great things,” Hyde-Smith said. “There are not enough thanks in the world to cover all that Dr. Dobbs has done for Mississippi”

Dr. Dan Edney will officially take over the role as state health officer on Monday.
