Drop in population could cost Mississippi millions

Mississippi’s population dropped by about 6-thousand in the latest Census.  Dr. John Green–who served as Vice Chairman of the MS Complete Count Committee–joined guest host Linda Allen on The Gallo Show on SuperTalk Mississippi to explain why the numbers are so important.

“The main purpose of the Census is to allocate the seats in the House of Representatives.  But then the data is used for so much more; including planning, districting and the allocation of funding,” Green said.

Mississippi didn’t lose any representation in Washington.  The size of our delegation will remain at 4 over the next decade.  But Green explained that the drop in population could mean a difference of anywhere from $18-million to $30-million dollars in funding.
