A duo was taken into custody in Madison County for having illegal drugs in the same vehicle as an infant child.

During a late October traffic stop conducted by Ridgeland police on East County Line Road near West Frontage Road, Brittney Leshay Bernard and Damien Demond Mason were taken into custody after officers discovered multiple drugs and an unrestrained one-year-old child in the vehicle.

Authorities detected a strong odor of marijuana during the stop. A search of the vehicle revealed 41 dosage units of suspected MDMA (ecstasy), four dosage units of suspected Hydrocodone, 10 grams of suspected marijuana, nearly $2,000 cash, and a loaded handgun.

The firearm was hidden near where Mason was sitting.

Both were arrested for multiple drug offenses and Mason was also charged with weapon possession by a felon, per the Ridgeland Police Department.
