For the first time, Camp Shelby is now accepting applications for a public draw hunt on post which is open to Mississippi resident license holders.

Hunters will be allowed to use either archery equipment or shotgun with buckshot – no slugs.

Lt. Colonel Jim Berry said the hunts will be held Thursday, November 25th, through Sunday, November 28th, and December 23rd through 26th. “40 hunters will be randomly selected and randomly assigned to one of twenty designated hunting zones on base for each of the hunts.”

Natural Resources Program Manager Bryan Fedrick says, “Camp Shelby has one of the highest deer populations that I know of in South Mississippi.”

Applications are being accepted now through September 30th.
