One of Mississippi’s top high school football coaches has found a new landing spot.
Lance Pogue, who has racked up five state championships as a frontman, has taken the head coaching and athletics director job at Brandon High School. Pogue makes his way back to central Mississippi after having served one season at Columbia. In the lone campaign with the Wildcats, the team mounted an 8-4 record, a region title, and reached the second round of the postseason.

Brandon makes the strong hire after former Bulldog head coach Sam Williams stepped down to coach UMS-Wright, a prep school in Alabama. Last year, Brandon made it to the 7A state championship game and fell just short of earning the victor’s crown as Tupelo came out on top, 28-16.
Pogue, who has an overall coaching record of 246-71, is best known for leading South Panola to a national championship in 2010. That year, he was subsequently named America’s top high school coach. Other stops along the way for Pogue have included Jackson Academy, Eupora High School, Winona Academy, Madison Central, and Mississippi Delta Community College.
At this time, Brandon High School has not released its schedule for the upcoming football season.
