A former Adams County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged with touching a child for lustful purposes.

According to a press release, Carl Champlin was taken into custody on April 12. The 70-year-old was a longtime law enforcement officer with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, serving under late sheriffs Tommy Ferrell and Ronny Brown.

Current Sheriff Travis Patten could not disclose many details as the investigation is ongoing.

“Sheriff Patten states that the investigation is still ongoing and more charges may come at a later date,” a portion of the release reads. “Sheriff Patten went on to say that he did not want to release too many details about the case, due to the sensitive nature of the crime.”

Champlin was booked into the Adams County jail and given a $75,000 bond.
