Several thousand U.S. Service members arriving in Afghanistan will be there for the next couple of weeks to help evacuate U.S. personnel and Afghan allies. Mike Retzer–former Ambassador to Tanzania and Chairman of the Mississippi GOP–told SuperTalk Mississippi this morning the situation is tragic. But he says this is happening a long way from America’s shores, and the Europeans have sat on their hands for years.
“They can sit on the back of their chairs and lean back and go tsk tsk at America. But the fact is that Europe has to step up and they have a responsibility in the world and the nature of things,” he told us during an interview on The Gallo Show. Retzer says Europe is very wealthy, and they can afford to take care of their own defense.
As for how the situation unfolding in Afghanistan might make us look on the world stage, Retzer says we’ll never be loved and appreciated by everyone, but we should be loved and appreciated at home by what we’re doing.
“Getting out of there is the right thing to do. Minding our own business and taking care of our own issues at home should be our agenda right now.”
