A former Yazoo City correctional officer has pleaded guilty to carrying out a scheme to defraud the COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
On Wednesday, Tarshuana Thomas, 34, of Flora, admitted to fraudulently applying for two PPP loans after claiming to be the sole proprietor of a dog breeding and sitting service.
According to court documents, Thomas received $12,586 in PPP funds, later spending it on personal, non-business-related expenses.
At the time, Thomas was employed as a Correctional Officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Yazoo City.
Thomas now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, with her sentencing scheduled for February 16, 2023.
