The United Football League (UFL) commenced its inaugural season this past weekend with the first points in league history coming off the foot of a familiar player here in the Magnolia State.
Taylor Russolino, a former Millsaps College standout, knocked in a 38-yard field goal to give the Arlington Renegades an early 3-0 lead and start the scoring for professional football’s newest league. Over the offseason, the USFL and the XFL merged to create the UFL.

Unfortunately for Russolino and the Renegades, the Birmingham Stallions and former Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral stormed back to win the game 27-14. Russolino did end up knocking another field goal through the uprights from 45 yards out to finish a perfect two for two on the day.
Corral finished the game after Adrian Martinez suffered a leg injury and completed 12 of 21 passes for 201 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He added 25 yards on four carries.
