A former employee for the city of Natchez has been arrested for allegedly embezzling funds, according to a Monday announcement by the Office of the State Auditor.
Rebekah Turner, who previously served as accounts receivable clerk of the city, is said to have taken cash from deposits made to her office by other city departments and converted that to money for her own personal use.
“The dedicated team at the Office of the State Auditor will continue to work with prosecutors so we can continue delivering record results for taxpayers,” State Auditor Shad White said. “This is how we’ve recovered more money in the last seven years than any other seven-year period.”
Turner faces up to $5,000 in fines and 20 years in prison if found guilty. The release did not disclose how much money Turner is accused of embezzling.
White reminded people that suspected fraud can be reported to his office on the state auditor’s website or by calling 1-800-321-1275.
