Ole Miss track and field standout turned Olympic athlete Sam Kendricks has added another medal to Team USA’s ever-growing tally.
After qualifying for his third Olympic Games, Kendricks cleared the bar at 5.95 meters to bring home his first silver medal. Armand Duplantis of Sweden amassed the first-place gold medal and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece earned the bronze
Monday’s feat in Paris added to Kendricks’ Olympic accolades. During the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio De Janeiro, the Oxford native claimed a bronze medal. He was set to compete for Team USA at the Tokyo games in 2021 but was barred from competing after testing positive for COVID-19 just before the pole vault competition.

Kendricks is only the third athlete in U.S. history to qualify three times in the men’s pole vault alongside Bob Richards (1948, 1952, 1956) and Earl Bell (1976, 1984, 1988). During his time at Ole Miss, Kendricks won two NCAA pole vaulting championships a two-time NCAA champion and SEC titleholder.
