Former West Point policeman, wife face murder charges for infant’s death

A former West Point police officer and his wife have been arrested in connection to the death of their infant child.

West Point Police Chief Avery Cook confirmed to WTVA that officers booked 24-year-old Donovan Jeffers and 25-year-old Quiyona Pederson into the Clay County Detention Center on Tuesday.

The pair was initially arrested in West Virginia last week and later brought back to the Magnolia State. Authorities looked into the November 2022 death of the couple’s four-month-old child.

Jeffers and Pederson became suspects once a medical examiner determined that the child had died from shaken baby syndrome — classified as a homicide. Both parents are charged with murder.
