Girlfriend accused of killing Jackson firefighter denied bond

The girlfriend of a Jackson firefighter who was slain inside his home earlier this year has had bond denied.

Tammie Williams, 41, was arrested in April for shooting Gerald Bates, 49, in the head and killing him. A standoff with police ensued with Williams barricading herself inside the home on Ferguson Road. Williams did not voluntarily turn herself in as S.W.A.T. members had to release tear gas inside the residence to get the accused murderer into handcuffs.

During Williams’ preliminary hearing in Hinds County this week, Judge Johnnie McDaniels denied bond for the murder charge. Williams is also being charged with possession of a stolen firearm, one she was said to have been walking around inside the home with after killing her boyfriend.

Bates, a veteran firefighter, served at the Jackson Fire Department for nearly 10 years, stationed at JFD’s station 5. He also worked at the Byram Fire Department.
